Some Great Books for Writers

I thought I’d share a couple of books with you that I think really help writers to focus their minds, not only creatively but in the business sense too. There are so many distractions on the social networks at present, that it makes procrastination a full-time job.  Ferris takes away the need for inspiration with a few hints and suggestions and gets you working, even with the dreaded writers block. Gaughran on the other hand, looks at the digital world as a whole; breaking it down into manageable chunks of information, then guiding you through subjects such as social networking and the mechanics of ePublishing.  Both books get five stars from me and are well worth the time and cash spent on them.

  1. Interesting post. I tend to avoid books like this but I recently read The War of Art by Steven Pressfield which was a great and much needed kick up the bum for me. Particularly interesting is his theory about ‘resistance’ – which is, in his eyes, the demonic driving force behind getting no work done. Well worth a look, and renewed my faith in writery help books.

    • Resistance, I like that. Sounds about right to me. I’ll definitely take a look. To be honest, I’m a bit of a sucker for self-help/writing books. Most of the time I find them useful. I study and work from home and lack that face to face peer group/tutorial interaction that sometimes gives you a nudge in the right direction. Still, I do have to keep myself writing and working and not get too bogged down by other peoples experiences and success stories. What works for one, doesn’t always work for another. Thanks for commenting 🙂

  2. Outstanding post however , I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on
this topic? I’d be very thankful if you could elaborate a little bit more. Many thanks!

    • I will probably write some more on this subject as soon as I’ve completed the projects that I’m currently working on. There are some great books out there. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
